Many people would be surprised to learn that the Muppets were created in the early 1950's. Since this time, every generation of children has been able to enjoy the pure magic that th
ese loveable characters bring into our lives.
The most famous Muppet is Kermit the Frog. He was also Jim Henson's first real star. His beginnings were quite different than the Kermit we know and love today. Over the decades, Kermit has evolved and worked his way into the hearts of children and adults alike. Just like Kermit the Frog, the Muppets have grown and evolved and remained an integral part of people's lives.
Most of the adults today fondly recall The Muppet Show which was a variety show that included celebrities as guest stars. Not only did we see the variety show, but we saw the goings on behind the scenes where Kermit and Scooter tried their best to get the show on without a hitch. These shows are now being released on The Muppet Show DVD's. As adults, we can share our fondest memories with our children, like Miss Piggy singing "Born to be Wild" with Ozzy Osbourne!
The Muppets transcended their puppet stature and were turned into cartoons and babies for the hit Saturday morning television show, The Muppet Babies. This is also a show that adults can reminisce about. Of course Miss Piggy was in love with Kermit back then as well and Rowlf was a piano prodigy. Fozzie cracked bad jokes and Animal was wild! It was a show that children could easily relate to.
In addition to the variety show and the cartoon, the Muppets have starred in several different movies since 1979. They have their own undeniable personalities that transcend the television and movie screens. This can be seen in the video and DVD sales as well as all of the other merchandise made specifically for these unique characters.
The Muppets also spawned the very popular Fraggle Rock. This show differed greatly than all of the other shows and movies that came previously. While this show was mostly about fun, it also taught valuable social life lessons.
It is rarely mentioned, but the beloved cast of Sesame Street are also Muppets. Sesame Street is one of the longest running television shows and airs in over one hundred different countries. It has spawned several infamous characters that have gone on to have their own products and movies. Honestly, who hasn't heard of Elmo? In addition, Sesame Street has been pivotal in teaching young children social and academic skills.
Sadly, Jim Henson passed away in 1990, his legacy lives on and even continues to grow. The Muppets have given adults and children the opportunity to bond over their favorite characters, favorite shows, and favorite movies. Not only have these characters made themselves an integral part of our lives, and they will only continue to grow! The Muppets are here to stay!

Movie Review - "The Devil And Daniel Johnston" Rocks Like Crazy!

"The Devil And Daniel Johnston" (2005) tells the inspiring, tragic story of a brilliant songwriter hindered by severe bipolar disorder.
With access to an astounding array of resources-- ranging from home audio and video recordings to personal interviews-- the filmmakers have crafted one of the most memorable character studies of recent years. Like "Crumb" and "Grizzly Man," this documentary paints a portrait of a man doing what he loves in spite of great personal problems.
The details of Daniel Johnston's life are downright mythic. To see the film is to understand how to conquer MTV while working at McDonald's. Or how to negotiate an album deal with Elektra Records while living in a mental institution. Or how to first cause a plane to crash, and then survive the crash you caused.
Through it all, one thing is clear: Daniel Johnston is an amazing songwriter. He may not have a great voice, but he makes up for it in spades. The quality of his words and music eclipse the often poor production values of his recordings. He is a musician's musician, inspiring the likes of Kurt Cobain, Sonic Youth, and the Butthole Surfers.
Daniel Johnston's personality has been compared to that of Brian Wilson. I would add Syd Barrett to the list. The raw, out of tune brilliance on display in such late-career Barrett as "Dark Globe" anticipates Johnston's similar struggle to make great music while battling mental illness.
If you like underground music, this movie is for you-- but be warned:
Viewing "The Devil And Daniel Johnston" may result in purchasing multiple CD's featuring out-of-tune singing and poor production values. In severe cases, starting a collection of cassette tape bootlegs may result.

A Full Review Of The Second In Command Movie

Set in turmoil infested Moldovia; a photographer captures the anti American sentiments outside the hotel where he stays in the Second in Command movie. As a response to the unrest, the U.S. embassy sends a military attaché to Moldovia. Guess who is the military attaché known as Commander Samuel 'Sam' Keenan? It is none other than the infamous martial arts expert cum actor; Jean Claude Van Damme a.k.a. JCVD. In the movie, he plays a U.S. Navy Seal & what have you extraordinaire; basically a very tough character (as usual) in the Second in Command movie, bursting into action to save the day. Oh Gosh! It seems like I may have already told you the whole story!
Commander Samuel (Jean Claude Van Damme) meets with his female journalist lover, Michelle Whitman (Julie Cox) in a hotel where the chaos began to unfold. A gunman walks into the hotel & shoots a journalist at point blank & other people too. Nonetheless, Michelle is unfazed & stubbornly insists that she continues to stay at the hotel. The hero goes off to the US embassy & tells her that he shall come back for her. Well, in my opinion he should have just dragged her to the embassy in the first place & pick up her things in the future. However, it is not how the story goes in the Second in Command movie.
Now Commander Samuel (Jean Claude Van Damme) & his compatriots in the embassy have to wait four hours until the Moldovian government's army arrives to the embassy. Additionally, the Marines evacuation & helicopter support unit based in Croatia was sent to the U.S. Embassy in Moldovia. However, the CIA agent in the embassy suggests for immediate evacuation & the notion is supported by everybody except for Commander Samuel. The evacuation plan fell into a trap & a bus load of innocent civilians were blown up in the Second in Command movie. Michelle (Julie Cox) is in a predicament as she realized a bug planted by the Moldovian militia was found on her clothes which lead to the death of the civilians.
In a final stand off against the Moldovian militia, now supported by rebellious Moldovian government troops, the remaining U.S. Marines, one of them played by Razaaq Adoti (he cp-starred in Resident Evil: Apocalypse), in the U.S. embassy, fight to the very end. The Moldovian militia is portrayed as imbeciles when their APC (armored personnel carriers) try to stand up against two American military attack helicopters. Michelle (Julie Cox) always manages to be in the wrong place & Samuel goes to find his lady again. After he had helped save the day, she is smiling sheepishly as though nothing had happened in the Second in Command movie or it was like it was only an end of a roller coaster ride for her. The lady looks like an animal in heat & could not stop staring at Commander Samuel (Jean Claude Van Damme) who inevitably, receives the usual ego boost of victory.

Bachna Ae Haseeno-Ranbir Kapoor And Deepika Padukone

As the title suggests, Ranbir Kapoor would be a flirt daddy in this movie. Wondering how would they picturize the title song. Much like his father, Rishi Kapoor's bachna Ae haseeno song, this should be foot tapping, Or do you think its going to be the same song but remixed? Don't know yet but I'll know that soon.
It's said to be based on the the Jimmie Shannon starer 'The Bachelor' released in 1999. If you haven't seen the movie, here's the plot for you.
Jimmie Shannon values his freedom more than life itself. As his male peers, even his best buddy, Marco, begin to hook up in marriage, Jimmie continues happily plugging away with his dating lifestyle, ...( read more read more... )in no rush to find "the one." When he least expects it, Jimmie crosses paths with the adorable Anne and falls in love. After a three-year relationship, Jimmie feels the pressures of commitment and decides to "give in", reluctantly proposing to Anne at the most romantic of restaurants. Sensing his uncertainty and angry over his botched and lame attempt at a proposal, Anne dumps Jimmie. Shortly thereafter, Jimmie's grandfather passes away and wills a $100 million inheritance to his grandson, on the condition he marries before his thirtieth birthday, which is less than twenty-four hours away...
I can't share the spoils with you for Bachna Ae Haseeno but seems like an interesting story line for a Bollywood masala movie. I am a staunch Yash Raj Fan and haven't missed a single movie that has come out under that banner. Moreover, it stars, Ranbir Kapoor yaar!! So I'd be sure to watch this one. How about you??

The shooting for the most awaited Bollywood movie for this year started recently at the Yash Raj studios. 'Rab Ne Bana Di jodi' stars Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. The girl is surely fortunate as she stars opposite SRK in Aditya Chopra's third directorial venture. Aditya is directing after a break of eight years. His amazing debut as a director was with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, the film that catapulted Shahrukh Khan to super stardom, and won all the major Filmfare Awards. It was the first of several successful pairings of Shahrukh and Kajol. We met Raj and Simran, the unforgettable jodi. And now we have Shahrukh and Anushka, another jodi in the making? Time will tell.
Anushka Sharma is from Bangalore and is only 19 years old. The girl has no prior acting experience but has been seen in TV commercials for Fiat Palio and sunsilk.
She always wanted to do modeling and that's why she started at a very early age. She was spotted at the lakme India Fashion week 2007. With lovely eyes, beautiful hair the young model is the right choice for the role, according to Aditya Chopra. Congratulations Anushka!
Aditya Chopra is one of my favorites. Also Shahrukh is such a charm that he will make life very easy for Anushka. Didn't we all hear how comfortable Deepika was while shooting for OSO.
This is a dream team. Aditya and Yash Raj films have given so much to Bollywood in the last 25 years. Their unique style of film making is indeed the recipe for success.

The shooting for the most awaited Bollywood movie for this year started recently at the Yash Raj studios. 'Rab Ne Bana Di jodi' stars Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. The girl is surely fortunate as she stars opposite SRK in Aditya Chopra's third directorial venture. Aditya is directing after a break of eight years. His amazing debut as a director was with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, the film that catapulted Shahrukh Khan to super stardom, and won all the major Filmfare Awards. It was the first of several successful pairings of Shahrukh and Kajol. We met Raj and Simran, the unforgettable jodi. And now we have Shahrukh and Anushka, another jodi in the making? Time will tell.
Anushka Sharma is from Bangalore and is only 19 years old. The girl has no prior acting experience but has been seen in TV commercials for Fiat Palio and sunsilk.
She always wanted to do modeling and that's why she started at a very early age. She was spotted at the lakme India Fashion week 2007. With lovely eyes, beautiful hair the young model is the right choice for the role, according to Aditya Chopra. Congratulations Anushka!
Aditya Chopra is one of my favorites. Also Shahrukh is such a charm that he will make life very easy for Anushka. Didn't we all hear how comfortable Deepika was while shooting for OSO.
This is a dream team. Aditya and Yash Raj films have given so much to Bollywood in the last 25 years. Their unique style of film making is indeed the recipe for success.

Off screen lovers Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja, one of the least talked about and least public jodis of Bollywood sign their next movie together, reports Yahoo movies.
The movie will be called ' What's your Rashee' (what's your sun sign) and will be directed by Ashutosh Gowariker who gave us Lagaan and Jodha Akbar. It's a romantic comedy. Right now we're more interested in Priyanka's red head and Harman's Dance and fight sequences in 'Love Story 2050.' Isn't it?
I like the guy and I think Priyanka and Harman Baweja make a really lively, spirited and chic couple. They have been spotted together in public but Priyanka has been really shy about her affair with him. Guess she wants to keep her personal life separate from her professional life. I think that's how it should be. She doesn't need poor publicity, she has done good movies in the past. She totally rocked in Farhan Akhtar's Don and I'm looking forward to some good one's this year. Good luck to both Priyanka and the cool new comer, Harman Baweja!

Donny And Marie Show - The Greatest Costume Moments

She was a little bit country. He was a little bit rock and roll. Together, they were a whole lot of ridiculous. And somehow, through the magic of over-the-top musical numbers, phenomenal guest stars, and painfully kitschy acting skills, Donny and Marie Osmond captured the attention and hearts of the entire nation. While The Donny and Marie Show of the late seventies only lasted a handful of seasons, their outrageous prime-time antics have made a lasting impression on TV viewers of any generation.
The Donny & Marie Show was created by SId and Marty Krofft, the famed creators of other such offbeat television programs as H.R. Pufnstuf and Land of the Lost. It aired from January 1976 to May 1979 as a weekly on ABC and featured such famous guest stars as Redd Fox, Lucile Ball, Betty White, Jerry Lewis, and Milton Berle. The format usually consisted of an elaborate opening act followed by a series of comedy sketches and an even more elaborate closing musical number. But for all the campy scripts and synchronized dance routines, the real stars of the Donny & Marie Show were, without a doubt, the costumes.
The 1977 Christmas special episode is a great example of Donny and Marie's ability to balance cutesy-poo costumes on that thin line between adorable and nauseating. Donny kept it simple; dressing in a matching white knit sweater and slacks combo with a red, white and green striped scarf, he wasn't afraid to say to the world, "Hi! I'm Donny Osmond! I taste like spearmint!" Marie made bolder choices in her winter finest with what looks to be a one-piece body suit but, upon closer inspection, turns out to be a sweater and stretch pants that are just slightly different shades of green. What makes this episode so memorable costume-wise is the fact that the entire Osmond family was featured --Mother, Father, the small army of twenty-eight that is the rest of their immediate family-- and they all match. I'm not sure who was in charge of coordinating outfits for that episode, but my hat certainly is off.
Another interesting costume extravaganza was the episode in which Marie celebrated her 18th birthday. In this episode, Marie and Donny sing their familiar weekly number, "I'm A Little BIt Country, I'm A Little Bit Rock-and-Roll", but this time -- gasp! -- they switch lyrics! That's right! And what kind of dramatic turn events would it be without ridiculous costumes. Both Donny and Marie sport matching silver outfits. Donny has a faux-western theme going on, while Marie looks like she just got back from touring with David Bowie. Marie also has an enormous new hairdo or, as Donny refers to it, a "hair don't."
Donny and Marie didn't stop at matching scarves and silver jumpsuits, though. In one episode, Donny portrays a superhero character known as Captain Purple, wearing an oversized purple muscle suit and wig and, as his mild-mannered alter-ego, a flannel suit. Not to be outdone, Marie suits up herself as Gnidder Neleh (Helen Redding spelled backward) in an equally campy red-orange mini-skirt and wig.
Star Wars being the cultural phenomenon that it was, it only made sense that Donny and Marie would have to do a parody of it. Donny plays Luke and Marie plays Leia with such guest stars as Redd Fox, Kris Kristofferson, Paul Lynde, and a few of the Osmond brothers. The costumes were polished, Osmond-style variations of the originals; unfortunately, C-3PO ends up stealing the show.
The best costumes of the entire series, however, belong to the famous Wizard of Oz episode. Marie plays Dorothy in a red checkered dress and pigtails, Donny is a Willy Wonka-esque Wizard in a yellow-green, curly wig and sparkling fez hat, and Paul Lynde is a downright terrifying Wicked Witch of the West in full green face paint, black gown and gruesome fingernails. Additional victims...err, guests...of this episode include Lucille Ball as the Tin Man, Paul Williams as the Cowardly Lion and Ray Bolger as the Scarecrow. The entire production is technicolor bizarre; the epitome of classic Donny and Marie.
While the show did indeed host a laundry list of Hollywood greats, the real stars weren't the people on the stage but the clothes on the people. From platform shoes and bellbottoms to capes and ice skates, Donny and Marie weren't afraid to let their clothes pick up where their own talent left off. And while some may find The Donny & Marie Show silly and outdated, one thing is for sure; there hasn't been anything like it on television since. Wardrobe-wise, that is.

The Greatest Sci-Fi Fantasy TV Series No One Ever Saw - "The Collector" About Satan & His Souls

"The Collector", is one of the greatest Sci-Fi Fantasy TV Shows that most people in the US never saw, let alone knew existed. The Collector was a Canadian TV Series that ran for 3 years, from 2004 to 2006, apparently shown in US syndication in only a few places, why I don't know. What made "The Collector" great was the superb writing featuring totally varied and unpredictable story lines, the great acting of the shows star Chris Kramer and weekly guest stars, excellent directing, gritty photography and superb production values. Why this show was not picked up on the Sci-Fi Channel is beyond belief. Chris Kramer by the way, appears destined to be the next great action TV or Movie Star. His presence seems to light up the screen and you probably remember him from his short part on "24" as Milo's brother in the last episode of 2007.
"The Collector" is about a man named Morgan Pym played by Chris Kramer who hundred of years ago made a deal with the Devil for an extra 10 years with his lover who was dying and in an effort to avoid Hell becomes a soul collector for the Devil. Before you can say that's "Reaper" or "Brimstone", what makes this show different is that Pym eventually got the Devil, played by different actors each week, to be allowed 48 Hours when each persons soul is up, to try to redeem them before they are sent to Hell. If they are redeemed, they avoid hell. The show was Action drama Sci-Fi as opposed to being religious. Thus Morgan tried to prevent people who sold their souls from entering Hell as opposed to the aforementioned shows where the Hero tries to send people back to Hell. The stories were incredibly interesting including episodes about Serial Killers, Aids, Comedians and more and you could not tell each week who's soul's would be saved until the end of the episode and the way these people wound up getting swept into hell were awesome. In a lot of episodes, the people who sold their souls were not as good or as bad as they first appeared. In some episodes, true evil people managed to trick the Collector which allowed them to continue being evil- long story.
I found out about this series through the wonder of the Internet and managed to watch the entire series when I visited a friend in Canada who had recorded each episode. It is a shame that commercial DVDs of this incredible show have not, as far as I know, been released. All I can say, it was a pleasure watching this series and people who haven't seen it, really missed something special.

Auditioning and What You Can Expect (Part II)

Analyzing What’s Working and What’s Not
Also, after about twelve auditions and castings and not getting one callback, I realized I should probably take an on-camera commercial class. While some actors tell me that twelve auditions without a callback is common, I still began to wonder if there was something I could do to better my chances.
To analyze your situation, it is necessary to keep good records. I used Leslie Becker’s book faithfully The Organized Actor to keep track of all my auditions. In her book are audition pages in which you can log everything about an audition, such as role, location, name of CD's office, time, wardrobe necessary, materials to prepare, comments, among several other things. I used this tool faithfully and periodically go back and analyze my situation.
One of the things I looked at, were the roles for which my agent submitted me. I looked at this because sometimes at auditions I felt out of place or not right for the part they were casting. I also thought about my ability to improvise and decided I needed to work on that. However, I was already enrolled in other classes and had many other things going on, so I opted not to take an improv class right away. Instead I looked at other things I could improve on.
One day I talked to another actor, whom I had met about a month prior and run into again at a voice-over audition. (You often see the same faces at auditions!) I was feeling down that day, and fortunately I ran into him. Even though we had met before, we never really talked much. We spoke for a half hour, and he gave me a pep talk, telling me that when he started out, it was the same for him and that one day things will just start to click. “You’ll see,” he said.
That very same day, after I had made some adjustments over the last couple of week, things began to change. That very same week was the best week of the summer and from that day on, the results I started to get were much better. That week I booked two jobs, and from them came two others. In addition, I was called back three times for commercials and put on hold for twice as well. Unfortunately I didn’t book the commercials, but I knew I was getting closer.
Also, the casting directors for whom I auditioned, after being put on hold, began to call me directly, bypassing my agent, because they also believed that sooner or later I would book something. Just a side note, although they called me directly without going through my agent, I always involved my agent anyway. She has been good to me and I don’t want to ruin that relationship. It’s not worth it. For other things that I submit myself for, however, I keep all the pay.
This ends part II of this audition article. In the third and final part I will tell you about a specific experience I had auditioning for a commercial.

Where Have G-Rated Movies and G Rated Videos Gone? What You Can Do To Get Them Back!

It's hard to believe how quickly we as Americans have changed in our viewing habits. G-Rated videos and G Rated DVDs are getting hard to find in the 'New Releases' section of your video store or even online. For every 1 G-Rated movie that is created, there are 17 R-Rated movies, even though a recent study (by the Dove Foundation) shows that the G movies generate nearly 8 times more profit. Even the Disney studios, which have produced many great kid-friendly movies in the past, are joining the trend. It is estimated that 3 out of 4 of Disney's top grossing movies are R-Rated. Let's take a look at how this has come about and what can be done about it.
In 1968, as complaints grew louder about the sex, violence and profanity in movies, pressure for a rating system (and a Supreme Court decision) finally forced the creating of the MPAA film rating system. Though new to the USA, a rating system had been in use by other countries for years already. The first rating system consisted of G (all ages admitted), M (parental discretion), R (16 and over unless with adult), and X (17 and over). Confusion regarding the M rating led to the development of the PG (all ages - parental guidance) and the disappearance of the M rating. Around the same time the R rating age was raised to 17 and the X rating to NC-17 (No 'children' under 17, later changed to no 'one' under 17). NC-17 movies are not shown by most theaters.
As more movies were made that straddled the gap between PG and R ratings, especially for violence (like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom), the PG-13 rating was adopted by the MPAA. PG-13 movies allowed for children under 13 to be admitted, but it came with parent warnings.
That brings us to today. Although an estimated 50% of the US population goes to church regularly, and
about 5% of the population attends the movie theater regularly, there is still a disproportionate number of horror and violent films being thrust on the public. Even at that, many of the g-rated moves that do make it to the screen are filled with questionable moral content including occultism and characters that promote unhealthy lifestyles. There is a good chance that soon movie ratings will be adversely affected if a character is smoking a cigarette, but still PG movies can contain strong language and drug or sexual implications that could influence young children. So what can parents do to find more movies for children?
First, know what your kids are watching. There are several sources where you can find out information about movies, even detailed information like what exact inappropriate language is said and how often, what disturbing scenes are included, and any sexual situations. Some of these online sites are ScreenIt.com, Kids-in-Mind.com, FamilyStyle.com, or RottenTomatoes.com. There are other sites that focus only on children friendly material and cartoons. Still other companies are taking good movies and extracting foul language and inappropriate scenes. Make the time to watch these shows with your kids and if there is any questionable content that comes up, stop the movie and explain why it is not appropriate. Never pass an opportunity to teach your children about good morals and character after the movie.
When you are looking for movies, try the Internet for downloads or good g-rated videos to purchase. Just type 'g-rated videos' or 'family movies' in your search engine and you will find sites that offer the type of material that will help the development of your children in a positive way. As more parents take action by declining take their kids to the show, and by refusing to buy or rent their videos from Internet sites that also offer hard-core movies, maybe the trend will change in favor of more wholesome choices for us all.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Jedi Master

Obi-Wan Kenobi is known best for the role he played in the Skywalker family. At his outset Obi-Wan was the Padawan Apprentice for Qui-Gon Jinn. Eventually during the training process it would become clear the Obi-Wan would surpass Qui-Gon in ability, knowledge and wisdom.
In a decisive battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Maul the young Padawan displayed tremendous skill and focus. His mastery showed his ability was rightly deserving of Jedi Knight classification. This would be deferred upon him by Master Yoda with the full Jedi Councils approval.
His first assignment would be to train the newly discovered Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan would soon find out that while Anakin was extremely gifted he lacked qualities necessary for a Jedi to display. The young and seemly innocent child would grow up to become a Dark Lord of the Sith and become the end of him.
Before his death Old Ben, whom Luke Skywalker referred to him as, would watch the growth and quietly protect the son of Darth Vader. It was his intent to shade him from the clutches of the Dark Empire whom its ruling parties seeked to find the young Skywalker and turn him away from any good. Luke would come to view Obi-Wan as an important mentor. Into old age Kenobi would seek to serve in this capacity for Luke. Beyond that he appeared in a spirit form to guide Luke past the Emperor.
Eventually Obi-Wan Kenobi would be rejoined with the reclaimed Anakin Skywalker in the exciting epoch finale of the Return of the Jedi.
